From photographing the playfulness of young children to the beauty of aging women, Emerald Lane lives by one mission: allowing others to feel seen and empowered.
Emerald notes that her fascination with photography began as early as childhood when she joined her mother and grandmother for professional family photos. In high school, this fascination turned into a deep passion, and she used film cameras to capture cityscapes, landscapes, and people. Her knowledge of shooting manually and developing her own film is why she fell in love with the craft of creating images.
Following her high school graduation, Emerald started working in a photo lab and photographing schools, daycares, senior portraits, and weddings. During that time, she learned two particular skills that would help her throughout her career: being present and engaging with her clients. After gaining 16 years of photography experience, she decided to start her own business.
“I have been unwavering in my conviction and commitment to serve people through deeply connected portrait sessions,” Emerald said.
Her business focuses on offering each customer a completely tailored experience from start to finish. She guides people during wardrobe and styling, custom photoshoot sessions, and professional touch-ups and image reveals. Her main goal is to ensure that each person feels seen and heard so that their vision is fully carried out.
In August 2020, Emerald launched “The Empower 40 & Beyond”, a project focused on shifting the narrative around beauty and aging with dynamic photographs of women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Her project will culminate in a gallery-style exhibition and celebration planned for early 2021.
“I believe all stages in life deserve to be celebrated, especially as we grow older, wiser, and learn to be more comfortable in our own skin,” Emerald said.
No matter what occasion is being photographed, Emerald’s goal is to let each client feel transformed by their session and to create stunning images to remember it by.
Emerald Dove Photography’s future plans include pursuing photojournalism projects focused on humanitarian issues, women’s rights, and climate change. In all endeavors, her message stays the same:
“I am here to tell you that you are enough just as you are, and you deserve to be seen. Photographs are legacies we leave behind just like our ancestors,” Emerald said. “Your story matters.”
