BloomHeart: Flowers From The Heart
Now in its second year of operation, BloomHeart Flower Co. is growing strong in the Chattanooga community.

Katy Billings founded BloomHeart through her passion for flowers. “I come from a family of artists and gardeners,” she explained. “I grew up watching my Grandfather paint and helping my Grandmother tend to her rose garden. I’ve always enjoyed creating [flower] arrangements.”
Katy quit her job and went to floral design school. Afterwards, her husband, knowledgeable in entrepreneurial skills, encouraged her to begin her own business.
“With a background in marketing and advertising, I always knew I wanted to find a way to combine my creative mind with tangible and visible arts,” Katy continued. “I just didn’t know if there was a way to make a living doing what I loved.”

“I love [Picasso’s] quote, ‘Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist,’” Katy added. “Are there any better words to design by?”
BloomHeart focuses specifically on custom floral designs. “There are general concepts and guidelines to follow, color theory to adhere by, and of course current trends,” Katy acknowledged. “[But] all our designs are unique to the client, no two are alike.”
“We start with a standard design and container and put our own flair to it,” she explained. “When someone orders from BloomHeart, we learn about the recipient (or clients) likes in terms of color, style, size, and the occasion. Often our clients tell us certain flowers or colors to include in their piece.”
While Katy enjoys personalizing arrangements for clients, she also has a lot of fun with “We Trust You” pieces, which have no specific requests and give her full creative freedom.

“I go to the flower market almost daily and often pick out items that I’m drawn to or spark my creativity,” Katy said.
BloomHeart has been well received within the Chattanooga community. “Because it’s just me, small events have become our niche!” Katy said. “From showers, birthdays, corporate events, and small weddings, our clients enjoy knowing from start to finish I am the one over the entire design process. I consult, design, and deliver.”
“We also offer a subscription program,” Katy continued. “Clients can pick to have flowers delivered to their home or place of business weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. We like to make these bouquets seasonal. It’s a great way for people to learn what’s in season throughout the year.”
In addition to floral arrangements, BloomHeart has produced plenty of enthusiasm over their social impact program, Bloom from the Heart.

“With each flower arrangement ordered, the recipient will also receive a complimentary bloom to be given away to brighten someone else’s day,” Katy explained; “a Bloom from the Heart.”
Katy hopes Bloom from the Heart will help encourage more connections among Chattanoogans. “A little gesture of kindness can go a long way,” she said.
For BloomHeart itself, Katy has detailed goals. “Our top goals are to remain top of mind in the industry and be known for beautiful, whimsical, high-quality blooms.”
As of now, BloomHeart is entirely online. “I am often asked if we will have a storefront one day,” Katy said. “I say, ‘I hope so!’ but I envision it more than that. It will be a space where people can do more than order flowers…stay tuned.”
